Week 20, Day 5

I thought I would write a quick pregnancy update, since I feel like my body is doing quite different things now then it did in early pregnancy.

First things first, chocolate. milk. I can't get enough of this stuff! When I was still really sick in the beginning stages I drank it because it was pretty much the only thing my body could handle, and it was only first thing in the morning. Two OB visits ago my doctor informed me that I should increase my calcium intake by adding a serving of dairy to each meal or take a calcium supplement. Mmm.. milk nonstop.

I'm still not sleeping through the night. In fact, I can't remember the last time I actually slept the entire time I was in bed. On average I am awake 2-4 hours in the middle of the night...just lying in bed. Last night I had a leg cramp, which I've read about but not experienced in the pregnancy so far. Maybe it was a fluke.

I've gained about 8 pounds so far. It was 10 at the doctor, but I had just gone out to a huge lunch w/Wendell and Mary Jane and I weigh myself every morning - and it is consistently 8. I went to San Antonio yesterday and Debbie took me to Old Navy where I bought 3 skirts w/elastic bands. Very helpful as it is starting to get pretty warm and I rarely, rarely wear pants when it is above 60 degrees outside.

An exciting development: I'm really starting to feel Baby Ryniker move, a lot! Her movements are becoming more predictable and strong. Matt actually felt her move the other night - which was a fun surprise. I feel like she must do 20 flips a day - our hyper little girl!

Here is some info about where we are in our pregnancy (from babycenter.com):

How your baby's growing:

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against her torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of her head to her bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, she's measured from head to toe.)

She's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for her digestive system. She's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in her bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

p.s. -- that last part in parenthesis? ew!
