Mommy Einstein.

Zoe's nails grow at an alarming rate. And in her happy go lucky, playful, all out silliness, Momma has been clawed a few more times than she would like. But, here was my dilemma: the only way I could ever clip Zoe's nails was while nursing. Well, since that is out - her nails were getting ridiculously long. Here enters youtube.

Have you ever watched a toddler watch television? It's unnatural and creepy. They completely zone out, sit completely still (when does a toddler EVER sit still!?) and get a dumb look on their face as they get sucked into the screen. I hate this. It bothers me immensely because if you spend any amount of time with a toddler you have to feel like there is something completely wrong about the process. (OR you could just read the tons of articles about the social, physical, psychological damage television does to young children, especially children under 2...why have their never been studies linking television consumption and autism and instead we keep hearing the same blabber about vaccinations!? I digress...)

What was I talking about? Oh yes. How I have solved my problem. Youtube.

Youtube has 2-3 minute segments of your favorite child television shows. Elmo's song? Why, yes, the perfect amount of time to cut Zoe's nails. She doesn't even care that I do it. (Seriously!? Creepy.) So, happy day to Z who now, as a gift for being weaned, gets to watch 3 minutes of Seasame Street every 2 weeks when I need to clip her nails.

I guess you can call it caving - but I like to call it compromise. And if you have a better idea go ahead and let me know but I'm pretty sure there isn't one.

Elmo's Song!!!

I'm jealous! Cadence still won't sit to watch ANYTHING, so nails are very difficult. We have started singing songs that involve counting, etc. to attempt to get a few done at a time at least! At least you found what works!

you should try clips of tele francais ... then your child would be trilingual (is that what 3 languages is?)

I love this post! And I love that you know it's creepy for a toddler to become zombified as they watch TV. Lucas already gets that zoned look on his face if we walk into somewhere that has a television. It's weird.
