First, poor Ana got a little fever and she was -more- than a little fussy and clingy. Her fever was only low grade though and beyond feeling a little beat down she was otherwise normal.
Z, on the other hand, was wiped. out. by her version. It started Sunday when I went to pick her up from Sunday School and instead of being happy and bright eyed as soon as she saw me she immediately started weeping. And I don't mean, Z crying, normal upset, etc - I mean *weep* with added crumbling. When I picked her up I realized she was burning up! So I set off to go get Ana and try to find Mateo in the mass of people. Since I couldn't put Zoe down (she was at this point limp on me and crying out, "I want Daddddddy!!!") and Ana can't exactly follow me (although she is a champ walker!) I carried both of the girls (and our unborn child) through the child wing and out into the sanctuary where I bumped into numerous people and caught Matt's eye across the sanctuary and mouthed, "Help! Me!"
We got to the car and Z just cried all the way home. Her eyes are red and droopy and looking totally miserable. As soon as we came in the door she walked directly to her bed and layed down. I convinced her to come out to put on pajama bottoms and she went back into her bed, closed her eyes and fell asleep. I had to take her temperature (103.8!) and give her medicine after waking her up. I slept with her for awhile in her bed and when I came out I realized I had two missed calls from people wanting to show the condo - both of which I politely refused.
After she slept during nap time (which never! happens!) she came out to find me and thus began her rest of the Sunday watching movies. Having a sick 3 year old is loads easier than having a sick toddler. Easier for them, easier for you. Although she did still desperately want me to lay down with her - she could also be entertained (and resting) while watching Beauty and the Beast and then Winnie the Pooh. Being sick means you get royal treatment in this house. Endless amounts of time in Momma and Daddy's bed, watching shows, extra cuddling!
eating peanut butter sandwiches in our bed!
and then she went to bed at 8 and slept well that night, crawling in with us sometime around midnight.
After 48 full hours Z was on the up and up. And I was on the down! I had 0 energy. So it was my turn to do my momma duties up until the exact moment Daddy came home at which point I immediately made myself horizontal. One night I went to bed at 7p and slept straight until 7a the next morning. I couldn't take how tired I was! But now my energy is back at normal, 1st trimester levels.
Annnnd sweet Ana girl is now leaking green snot at an incredible rate.
And still, as sad as ALL of this was, every and I mean -every- time without fail I just think about families who have kids chronically sick, in hospitals or battling it out at home and how -hard- that must be on everyone involved! I am really thankful for passing illnesses, truly.
