Beware the Ides of Summer

I'd say for the most part - our summer started out pretty normal. Taking care of the baby:

Attending (and being a part of) weddings:

Chillin with our church buddies:

Splashing:

More splashing:

And then, it took a turn for the absolute nuts crazy explosion of madness.

First, Ben decided that he had had enough of this daily "nap" time and he jumped/climbed/somethinged right out of that crib. I heard him crying and immediately knew something was pretty wrong. I ran in his room and found him in a heap on the ground. When I got him up he was cradling his arm and crying -hysterically.- Ben is pretty tough guy so I knew he was in quite a bit of pain. I tried everything I could to distract him but it didn't help. It didn't help anything that this was during his nap time, which although he may not believe it, it still needs to be not be a tired, cranky, fusspot.  He cried non-stop for about 20 minutes and I finally convinced him to watch a show. I called the pediatrician and they said to take him to the ER since they would have everything in one place. During the show he stopped crying (and I pumped in preparation of about to take 4 kiddos to the ER because I couldn't get ahold of Matt) but he didn't put any weight on his arm or use it to push himself up or reposition. Matt finally got my messages, came home and off we went. Where - after some x-rays that just about broke my heart because they hurt him to take - they confirmed he had broken his arm and would need a cast. Second cast of little boys life. I'm thinking maybe not the last? But I can hope.

Naptime got relocated to the ER

Not his first rodeo

And so, this effectively ended our splashing for the next 4 weeks. But, there would be ample opportunity for Matt and I to splash because that very same night a pipe broke in our bathroom and flooded it it completely. We still had carpet in our closets and it thankfully soaked up a ton of the water, but it still got in our walls and creeped backwards into our living room. I had been laying down with Ben in his new big boy bed (because no crib) and thought Matt was in the shower (because I heard water running) but when I walked in I couldn't even comprehend what was happening. There was water SPEWING out of my sink cabinet and when I tried to open the door to see what it was I couldn't see past the spray. I ran into the kitchen where Matt was, holding Jack and yelled "There is water EVERYwhere in the bathroom!!" He had though - I - was taking a shower. No shower - though we almost could have taken a bath.

And so, Matt set to work cleaning up, trying to salvage our walls/floor. The next few days brought the clean up crew, insurance people, GIANT loud fans. It was nuts. The kids and I spilt and took to Tia's. And thus began the next few week of our family being crammed all together.

Tia sleep over!

Ignorance is bliss

Happy out of the house times

And then, within the madness, we escaped to our pre-planned vaca of Family Camp 2015. I was a little nervous about how this was going to go down with my pump in tow newborn. But it turned out to actually be amazing and a great time for Matt and I to have some rest time. There were teachings, skits, rodeos, date night,  meals not cooked or cleaned up by me, horses, afternoon adult free time (WHAT!?! KID FREE!) and friends.... so good.

We ready.

Did I mention how much Matt loved the horses!?

YeeHaw

We are surrounded by 0 children in this picture!

In love.
In love.

Z went down that slide like a champ
Momma made Ben wear a bag/tape combo to get anywhere close to the water
This swing was maybe my favorite part of camp!

No, but really.

Look! I was on a horse too

Viking Cowboy

This is us at breakfast. Again, 0 children.

Family devo! Ana loved it!

Matt and Z about to zip line right off that giant tower

Jack's #1 and the counselor I almost stole from camp

And then when we got back it was time to get serious about restoring our house. The insurance had provided for us to redo the flooring in all the bedrooms and I got to work ripping up some carpet while Matt was at work. I moved furniture/ripped up tack board/hauled carpet out and basically tried to get the rooms ready for Matt to work his magic.

The girls leaving their marks under the new floor

So fun to get to draw on the floor!
And work his magic Matt did. He redid three carpeted bedrooms and killed a little bit more of the 1968 that was still hanging out in our house.

At move-in

Completion

And now, without much further ado, we are waiting for baby boy to get his surgery on!
