Yesterday I got to witness something awesome:
I was working in the kitchen and Matt was off in another room somewhere. Ana was sitting in her chair and Z was running around, busy, busy. All of a sudden I look over and Z in sitting on the floor by Ana's chair and is showing her to toy I "play" with Ana with sometimes. It is a crocodile with a spinning ball (like a rattle) that has little plastic fish in it. Z is holding it over Ana saying, "see the fish? see the fish?" Then, she tries to put it in Ana's hand (poor newborn, can't grasp toys yet...) and says "here.. okay? okay?" Then, "no, don't like it?" and she puts the toy down, starts to run off towards the living room, comes back and puts her hand in Ana's face and says "stay here!" and then runs off again. She pushes her table out of the way and climbs behind our brown chair where I keep the bigger toy that the crocodile came off of disassembled (a play-mat that has 3 bars that hang over it) and comes running with another, different toy from the same set. She then begins to try to entertain Ana again with a different toy.
I could have started crying. Z was trying SO hard to play with her sister! And then, when she thought Ana didn't like the toy, she went to get another one to show her. I kept thinking about it last night and how thankful I am for my girls and for Zoe's ridiculously nice personality. Since before she was born I've always prayed for her that she would love people really, really well. Like, that she would be known as being a lover of people but that it would stem from God's intense love for people and her love of people would be a witness to that. I feel like that is a true characteristic of Zoe... it manifests in lots of different ways - but yesterday I got to see it really clearly. I can't wait for Ana to be old enough for the two of them to actually play together!!!
